CD REVIEW: Devildriver- The Last Kind Words
Artist:Devildriver
Album:The Last Kind Words
Label:Roadrunner Records
Official Website: www.devildriver.com
Devil Driver is: Dez Fafara - vocals, Mike Spreitzer - guitar,Jeff Kendrick - guitar ,Jon Miller - bass,John Boecklin - drums
Lets be honest here and admit that Devildriver front man Des Fafara doesn't have the proudest musical past of most metal musicians out there today. His involvement with goofy goth nu-metal act Coal Chamber catches him a lot of flak among most purist metal heads out there. But Dez and his new band Devildriver have just released a new album that will forever close the door on his nu-metal past and put to rest any mention of Coal Chamber.
To say that "The Last Kind Words" is a nasty album would be an understatement. This album simply oozes with a rage few metal bands out there could compete with. I was skeptical about Devildriver in the beginning, I thought their 1st album sucked and was kind of on the fence with their last album "Fury of Our Makers Hand" but goddamn this album has made me a believer. The brutal edge and catchy hooks found on "The Last Kind Words" make this my album of the year so far.
Opener "Not All Who Wander Are Lost" "Monsters of The Deep", "Bound By The Moon", Horn of Betrayal" damn every single track is a winner. Everything a metal head could want is on this album. Technical Riffing, blistering, solos, furious drumming, and Dez's monstrous growl all make this Devildrivers defining effort. This album was built for speed and the heaviness rarely lets up. No commercial ballad, no emo lyrics or choruses, Dez's makes it clear that he and this band bleed metal!! Devildriver have just claimed the throne as heaviest band on Roadrunner Records, no other band on their roster comes close!!! Looking for something heavy??? The Last Kind words will have you neck sore for months. Get it today! The "Far Beyond Driven" of this generation!!! I said it!!
