FATA is: Francis Mark Lead Vocals, Brian Deneeve Guitar and Vocals, Josh Newton Bass and Vocals, Rob Lauritsen Guitars, Jeff Gretz Drums

FATA is one of those bands that has seemed to succeed despite having inner turmoil within their practice space. Since their initial release on Ferret Records you felt as if old guttural throat, Ben Perri, was not long for the band. Despite FATA at times treading on almost popish themes, Perri still remained commited to his hardcore roots and made his influence felt.....till now!

Enter Francis Mark who had been sitting behind the kit and chiming in with what I felt was the most profound vocal work the band had done. No offense to Perri, but Hardcore is Hardcore, Mark was becoming the spine of this band. And so it goes, the axe fell on Ben and FATA was able to open it's wings and fly with "Holding a Wolf by The Ears"

What's interesting is "Deth Kult Social Club" is without a doubt the most "Hardcore" track the band has attempted. It reminds me of classic Shai Halud, but Francis really screams a bloody tantrum here. It is almost like a blatant "Fuck You" to Perri, like "See we can break out a can of whoop ass without you". It is an emotional track that has just enough angst and just enough heart to get you revved up for the rest of the opus.

"Holding a Wolf by The Ears" is what Thomas Jefferson said of slavery. You don't have the strength to keep holding him up, but you dare not let him go. It is interesting that FATA would name the album after such a dark statement. The record as a whole is politically aware, at times dark, while other times completely capable of making you feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The gamut of human emotion is rocked from track to track, all the while delivering a very human message. If music is art, and art is expression, then FATA has made aggressive art!

Be sure to check out "Delusions Of Grandeur". No it is not a song about Han Solo responding to Chewbacca telling him Luke thinks he is a Jedi. It is a pop song that evolves into one of the most complete pieces of work this band has done. Very ambitious!
My suggestion, go into this record with a clear head. Crank it loud, read the lyrics and let it move you. Some record you put on as back ground noise. Others you let engulf you....that would be my suggestion here. Props to FATA for nailing down "their sound" and moving forward. It was worth the journey!
