I have to admit that I am a jaded music critic. For example, Sparky was going nuts about this band for the better part of the last month. I kept thinking "another run of the mill chic led metal band." I mean, I like Kittie, I dig Arch Enemy….after that I have not been impressed with girl led bands. It has more to do with the fact I like guttural voices more then high pitched cat fighting screams. Enter Maria Brink who makes me eat my words compete with a bludgeoning metal mallet. To say this gal has a clue is an understatement.
Musically think of Killswitch Engage. Vocally, same deal! Think of KsE only Maria's pain glides across the ears with ease. Her ability to trade off between evil temptress and hovering angel is what makes her so appealing. With lead track "Beautiful Tragedy" you get to hear this bands full ability. Finger plucking melodies give away to flowing harmonies that back Brinks absolutely stunning vocals. But as always the gore returns after the chorus and the pit goers of America will be stoked to rumble while Maria stirs a pit frenzied. In the end it is her melodies that pull the heart strings and keep you hooked! Lyrics because everyone likes to sing like a tard in the car:

Opening track "Prayer" is one part KsE, one part Megadeth, one part Ozzy (kind of like the riff from Bark At The Moon) and all Brink! For metal heads, this track will be a staple, it is less accessible then some of the other offerings…all meat and horror like material.
Think Evanescence rocks? You will think that no more kids! Give Maria Brink and In This Moment a try. It is heavy, yet accessible. Beautiful yet overly destructive. Complex music for people who can tolerate a beautiful tragedy!
