Let's be honest. Megadeth has been putting out shit since Cryptic Writings in 1997. It has been 10 years since this band put out anything that remotely resembled what made this band great. Solo's, political angst, and yep…more guitar extravaganza! Thankfully, the best thing Mustaine did was join Roadrunner. Somewhere along the line he got back to what pissed him off when he did drugs…namely politics. He has a political agenda and has spent the better part of the last decade in a political coma…thankfully he awoke.
No need going into Megadeth's sound. What I can say is "Sleepwalker", Gears Of War", "Amerikastan" and "Your Dead" is the most metal work this band has done in years. The soloing on "Your Dead" reminds you just how great a guitar player Dave really is. Production is perfect!
The bad: "A Tout Le Monde" is a lame remake. It was fine as is. Also the chorus on "Never Walk Alone…A Call To Arms" annoys me. It is just repetitive and screams radio release.
It seems like there have been a great deal of bands coming back to what made them great. I feel like this album was Mustaine's acceptance of being a thrash metal band. It harkens back to the likes of "Rust In Peace", and "Countdown To Extinction". For fans of the band you can't ask more then that, even if the political statements are a bit over the top on the record.
